Plant Origin—Horsetail
Horsetail (scientific name: Equisetum arvense) is a small fern-like plant in the Equisetaceae family, also known as scouring rush, bottlebrush, and other names. It is found in China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, the Himalayas, Russia, Europe, and North America, growing in moist meadows, ditches, sandy soils, farmland, slopes, and grasslands at elevations from 0 to 3700 meters. Horsetail has distinctive green, nutrient-rich stems and is valued as an ornamental plant. It is suitable for pot cultivation or large plantings near water in gardens. The tender tips of young horsetail in early spring can be used as a vegetable, rich in carotene and vitamin C. Medicinally, the whole plant is used, offering benefits such as clearing heat, cooling blood, detoxifying, and diuresis. It treats conditions like bleeding, cough, and gonorrhea, and also has pain-relieving and anti-swelling effects.
