Product Introduction

Goji berry extract is sourced from the fruit of the Solanaceae family’s goji plant. Using goji as both food and medicine, the extract is produced through extraction and concentration, followed by spray drying technology. Rich in goji polysaccharides and betaine, it appears as a brownish powder, with good fluidity, 80-100 mesh size, and easy solubility, carrying the inherent scent of goji berries.

Goji extract is widely used in health foods, functional foods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other fields.

Production Process

The production process of goji berry extract involves:

Carefully selected premium raw materials → Initial processing → Crushing → Extraction → Filtration and concentration → Extract → Spray drying → Crushing and sieving → Testing → Sealing and packaging → Sterilization and storage.

Active Ingredients

Modern analysis shows that goji berries are rich in nutrients, containing 4.49g of crude protein, 2.33g of crude fat, 9.12g of carbohydrates, 96mg of carotene, and numerous vitamins and minerals per 100g. The primary active component is goji polysaccharides.

  • Goji Polysaccharides: A water-soluble polysaccharide and the main active ingredient, with a molecular weight of 68-200. It is a research focus worldwide, particularly for its immune-boosting and anti-tumor properties. Studies have shown goji polysaccharides can enhance immunity, delay aging, fight tumors, eliminate free radicals, combat fatigue, protect against radiation, support liver function, and improve reproductive health.
  • Betaine: A quaternary ammonium compound similar in structure to amino acids, it’s a major alkaloid in goji berries. Betaine plays a key role in lipid metabolism and preventing fatty liver by acting as a methyl donor in the body.
  • Goji Pigments: These pigments include carotenoids and other colorful compounds found in goji berries, playing an important role in physiological activity. Carotenoids, in particular, are known for their antioxidant properties and as precursors to Vitamin A. Research suggests these pigments can enhance immunity, prevent tumors, and reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis.

Plant Characteristics: Chinese wolfberry is a multi-branched shrub growing 0.5-1 meter tall, but cultivated plants can reach over 2 meters. The branches are slender, arching, or drooping with pale gray bark and thorns 0.5-2 cm long. The leaves are paper-thin or slightly thicker in cultivated varieties, arranged alternately or in clusters of 2-4, with varying shapes from ovate to lanceolate. The berries are red, usually ovoid, and can grow up to 2.2 cm in length and 5-8 mm in diameter. The plant flowers and bears fruit from June to November.

Distribution Range: Chinese wolfberries are found throughout Ningxia, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, and many other regions of China. Cultivated and wild varieties are also found in Korea, Japan, and parts of Europe. They grow on hillsides, wastelands, and salty or alkaline soils, and are commonly found along roadsides and near villages.

Ningxia goji berries evolved from wild varieties in northwest China, and under suitable conditions, cultivated varieties can revert to wild forms.

Growth Environment: Goji berries thrive in cool climates and are highly frost-resistant, with seeds germinating at around 7°C. Seedlings can withstand temperatures as low as -3°C, and the plant can survive winter temperatures as low as -25°C without damage.

Varieties: The genus Lycium includes several species: Lycium chinense (Chinese wolfberry), Lycium barbarum (Ningxia wolfberry), and others like the black-fruited and yellow-fruited wolfberries.
